About Laminated Tobacco Bags
Below are the types of laminates that may be used for tobacco storage and our opinion of each. We hope that with a little bit of knowledge, we can help you make the correct decision when selecting the bag that you will use.
The various types of bags are listed below from the best at the top to the least at the bottom.
Silver PET/Foil/LDPE 4.0 MIL Thickness
This type of lamination will protect the tobacco the best but as it is a foil bag, you can not see the tobacco inside. It is also expensive.
COEX Nylon/LDPE 4.0 MIL Thickness
This bag is made of nylon and low density polyethelyene which are extruded together to from one film. Because of the nylon, this makes for the best laminated bag, for the money, that you can select. The 4 MIL thickness supports this bag in the upright position and will always look great on the shelf.
PET/LDPE 4.2, 3.5, and 3.0 MIL Thickness
With this material, the thicker the bag, the better. To lessen the thickness of this bag, less low density polyethylene is used because what you are paying for is the polyether. Many companies choose to use a 3.0 MIL bag, but these will not stand upright as a thicker bag will and less material means less protection.
OPP/LDPE 4.2 and 3.5 MIL Thickness
This is the least expensive of the laminated choices and it also provides the least protection, in either MIL thickness. This is a cheaper option but in our opinion, it does not come close to the COEX Nylon/LDPE bag.
Poly Zipper Bag any MIL Thickness
This bag provides no barriers to air infiltration or loss of moisture and it will not stand upright on a shelf as it is a very pliable material and offers little to no resistance.
